10 Day TV Meme: x09 Cancelled/Ended Shows
Ashes To Ashes
I didn’t see s1 of Ashes when it aired, I bought it on iTunes about 3 days before s2 was due to air and watched the entire series in those 3 days. Needless to say, I was hooked.
The writing of Ashes to Ashes, like Life On Mars (Which I didn’t get into nearly as much), is just so real. Whether you were around in the 80s or not, it’s easy to feel as if you’re there.
Keeley Hawes played Alex Drake perfectly. Everything down to the relaxing of her hair throughout the show’s run and the abolition of those ever present representations of “women needing men”.
Does it really need saying about Gene, Ray and Chris? For me, they represent how the Police force should be, just helped along by Alex. Also, Shazza. I almost overlooked her, like a lot of people possibly do. But her moment in her wedding dress, with the gun was just amazing. I laughed and cried at the same time.
The run ended perfectly, I think. To go back to the show would be a blunder by the BBC, because everything was tied off properly. There is nothing to go back to. Even a new series in a new decade probably wouldn’t work. Everybody got the send off they deserved.

I agree with everything but the last paragraph…I think Alex deserved a better ending/send off, but I won’t start ranting...
